Most of us want to give our best effort, don't we?

(By us, I mean the people committed to living a constructive life.)
Yet sometimes we find ourselves, despite our best intentions,  simply not having enough time to do all the things that we want to do.  This is the time, my friends, that a Sugar Ray may be an option worth considering.

The Sugar Ray involves a little compromise, with yourself.  You've tried all that you know, denied yourself sleep, drank copious amounts of coffee, cut out your favorite shows, sacrificed those two hours in the gym you look forward too...you just don't have enough time to meet that deadline.

OR...maybe you just don't have time to do it the way you wanted to.  This is a judgement call, in a crisis situation.  What's more important here? Doing it perfectly, or getting it done on time?

Your answer will depend on the situation.  Say your mother in law calls to inform you that she's coming to visit, and she'll be at your door in the next two hours.

The house is a mess, your mother in law is really anal about cleanliness, and you really don't want to spend four hours listening to her criticize the squalid conditions you are inflicting on her pride and joy
And you don't have time for a spring cleaning, so what do you do?

I'll bet that some stuff will get rearranged and quickly hidden in closets, until you can do a proper job.

The Sugar Ray is for situations that are more about making progress than perfection.  When passing is higher priority than getting a distinction.  When having a clean living room for your guests is more important than cleaning the whole house.  It's as much about choosing what you're not going to do, as it is about what you will do.  And when you're in survival mode, that can make all the difference in the world.

The name is inspired by "Sugar Ray" Leonard's fantastic fight against "Marvellous" Marvin Hagler.
It involves a furious flurry of activity, done in a short space of time, to make the right impression or get a result that would otherwise be unachievable.

At the time, Marvellous Marvin was the undisputed Middleweight champion of the world, and was undefeated for eleven years.  Sugar Ray was retired, and had only fought once in the previous five years.
None of the experts gave him a chance, but Ray won the fight.

His strategy involved choosing not to trade punches toe to toe with Marvin, and also giving a crowd pleasing flurry of punches in the last minute of critical rounds to leave a positive impression on the judges.  I think that this short video will give you a clearer idea.

So, the next you feel cornered by something you "have" to do, and just don't have the time...a Sugar Ray may be your only way!
